Digital Realty Trust

One of the greatest environmental impacts of a data centre is the building itself, especially if it is scratch built to purpose.

Digital Realty Trust (DRT) has helped to develop the British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) for data centres. Similar standards exist for schools, residences and even prisons, but this is the first such certification for buildings.

BREEM now ensures that when DRT builds or redevelops a data centre, the full environment impact of the building is taken into account.
